As a massive fan of electric motorcycles and especially one built down under I am excited to share breaking news about Savic Motorcycles who have announced the start of production and ADR compliance!

Huge props to Denis and his team for this accomplishment.

Press release follows:

Australian electric vehicle pioneer has the Government’s tick of approval to start

production of its high-performance electric motorcycle, the Savic C-Series

Melbourne, 8th February 2023: A CTO of an autonomous electric vehicle firm, a manufacturing entrepreneur and multiple motorcycle collectors are among 246 motorcycle enthusiasts who have pre-ordered the Australian-developed Savic electric motorcycle – all without a test ride.

In a positive return to automotive manufacturing in Australia, Savic Motorcycles expects to deliver the first bikes from its production line in West Melbourne from April. The road was cleared for commercial production to begin last month, when the C-Series was granted full Australian Design Rules (ADR) certification after passing national safety and emissions regulations.

Savic Motorcycles’ founder and CEO, Dennis Savic, said that securing more than 240 orders without a single customer having a test ride was a testament to his team’s hard work in developing an exceptional electric vehicle.

“We know we have a great bike at a fantastic price,” said Mr Savic. “It looks great, delivers awesome performance, and we believe will make a real dent in motorcycle sales – and not just in the electric vehicle category – in the near future.

“There isn’t yet a wide variety of high-performance electric motorcycles to choose from in Australia, but for those who are looking to buy in this space, we’re proud to offer an Australian brand to them.”

Mr Savic said the company is aiming to produce 70 – 100 motorcycles this year, while gearing up for increased production in 2024 and beyond.

“We believe that we’ll be able to produce around 1,000 motorcycles annually at our current facility and will be looking for a larger production centre in Melbourne soon, as we work towards a production volume of 5,000 vehicles per year in Australia by 2025.”

Savic Motorcycles has spent many years testing and refining the C-Series, with the final hurdle – ADR compliance – cleared in December. The motorbike, which won the Victorian Premier’s Design Award last year, represents a new start for automotive manufacturing in Victoria, where domestic vehicle production largely dried up following the closure of Ford and Toyota’s manufacturing facilities in 2016-17.

The Savic team has had a busy start to 2023, with their first production parts rolling into the workshop to build their first five vehicles for final testing before starting larger-scale production in March for first customer deliveries in April.
